We hope lots of households in our Parish will sign up for Posada this December. If you haven't come across Posada before, it's an Advent tradition originating in Mexico, where miniature hand-made figures of Mary and Joseph, accompanied by a delightful donkey, 'travel' around the villages staying at a different home each night. The Posada figures will set out from Findon Church after the Christingle Service on 7th December, and return during the Crib service on Christmas Eve.
Hosts need to be at home on two consecutive evenings. On the first they receive the travellers, offering a welcome and simple refreshments, and on the second they in turn become the travellers, carrying the figures to the next home on the rota.
The figures are child-friendly and fairly indestructible, so families with children are welcome to join in, as well as older people. And if you feel unable to 'travel', there are people who will deliver the figures for you, so you don't miss out on this special experience. The rota will be available in church on each Sunday in November, but you are also welcome to ring Jacqui Greaney at the Rectory on 873601 to book your slot. Further details will be sent nearer the time to everyone taking part, but if you have any questions Lis Hobden (872222) would be happy to answer them.
Posada has proved to be a surprisingly meaningful experience for those taking part - not just as a way of getting to know our fellow villagers better, but also providing a quiet lull in the hectic rush through December and a chance to connect with the real meaning of Christmas. Why not join in?
