A huge thank you to all the brave souls who helped with the Clapham Churchyard and Church tidy and clear up, not to mention the removal of somewhat dead trees. Good bonfire! Thank you also to Margaret Cornford and Mabel for the wonderful refreshments.
The Church would be so much worse off without the kindness and willingness of people like you.
Gail Smith, Clapham Churchwarden
Help to support our church building - churchgoer or notIt is clear that our historic church is greatly valued by our community. Clapham Parish Council has identified it as an 'Asset of Community Value', and The Friends of Clapham & Patching Churches raise much appreciated funds for its repair and maintenance, as well as working to keep the churchyard in good order.
However, in recent years contributions to the church have fallen, and it is increasingly difficult to cover the cost of running the church, employing a parish priest, contributing to the costs of the diocese and supporting our church school.
Many parishioners who are not regular church attenders also value the building, perhaps attending for special occasions such as Christmas and Easter services, baptisms, marriages and funerals.
Just as our utilities go up in price, so the running costs of the church also increase. If you want to make a contribution, you can do so in a number of ways:
- If you pay income tax, use a gift aid envelope for your collection money - that way the church can reclaim tax on your donation
- The same applies to one-off donations by cash or cheque - envelopes are available from the Churchwarden (871669). You can send these to the rectory, or give them to the Churchwarden. Cheques should be made out to 'The PCC of Findon, Clapham and Patching'.
- You could also set up a standing order for regular contributions - monthly, quarterly or annually. You can 'gift-aid' these contributions too. Standing Order forms are available from the Churchwarden or the church bookkeeper, Irene Adams (01903 368143).
